Welcome

Women for Palestine is a network of Australian women who stand for nonviolence and human rights in the Holy Land. As women, we believe that our inherent inclination for healing and nurturing can indeed have a powerful effect on the attitudes and actions of all people who are caught in a spiral of hurt, anger and retribution. We believe that peace is the only solution to conflict and that even small beginnings can make a difference. Click on our About Us page to read more.

Please spend some time exploring our site to read and experience an evergrowing mass of voices, images and information on Palestine ranging from expressions of the joy of a child's hope (Childrens Corner) to a tormenting experience of life in a local Palestinian school (Voices from Palestine).

WOMEN FOR PALESTINE

M E L B O U R N E - A U S T R A L I A

In memory of

A R A F A T

1929 – 2004

He took upon himself the burden of a people dispossessed
and pulled them away from the black hole of oblivion when
all others were content to abandon them and let Palestine
fade from the world’s collective consciousness.

He was a man. A leader.
A symbol of his people’s struggle.
He fought. He sought peace.
He led with courage. He had a vision.
He listened. He did it his way.
He made decisions. He made mistakes.
He won and he lost.
But, he never lost sight of Palestine.
For all that and more, he was loved and he was hated,
but always to the end, a man of his people.

In the twilight zone between his life and his death,
the burden of years slipped finally from his shoulders.
We grieve. We weep. We thank him and wish him peace.

It is time for Palestine to stand alone.

From the silence, let the whispers grow until with one voice we can all find a way to go forward in peace and once again hear the laughter of children ring out in that most ancient land of Palestine.

2003 Peace Prize

HANAN  ASHRAWI

SYDNEY - AUSTRALIA

A Triumph for Palestine
Never was a peace prize so richly deserved after having been so viciously challenged by those who could not bear to see a Palestinian join the ranks of Sydney Peace Prize recipients. But join them Hanan Ashrawi did with all the dignity befitting a woman of extraordinary talents and achievements.
